Flamengo director of football Zinho has confirmed to reporters that striker Adriano has chosen to continue his playing career and will train with the club on Tuesday.

Reports on Monday had suggested that Adriano, 30, was considering quitting the game after missing training once more on Saturday, having been seen in nightclubs on Friday night.

The former Inter Milan striker was then given permission to miss training on Monday to consider his options, with some at the club growing impatient with the player’s lack of discipline.

Late on Monday night, however, the Flamengo official was able to confirm the fallen star’s decision to return to training, after conversations with Adriano and his agent.

“He’s made the decision to stay, to continue and to return to being a professional athlete,” Zinho told Lancenet!

“We had a chat and I asked him to call me at night. We are neighbours, we live in the same area. I prefer face-to-face contact. From the start, I said that we want to help him recover as a human being.”
