Brazil midfielder Rômulo underwent surgery in Germany on Friday in a bid to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his right-knee.
Rômulo, 22, injured his knee in action for new side Spartak Moscow last weekend, when an opposition player fell on his leg after challenging for a header.
Although still coming to terms with his first season in Europe ending so soon, the former Vasco player remains positive about his prospects of a quick recovery.
“I’m still very upset because the injury has come at the best moment of my career,” Rômulo told Globo.
“Thanks to God, the surgery was a success and I will now rely on my willpower in recovery to try and surprise the doctors and return within the expected six months.”
Rômulo will hope to make a return to action in the final weeks of the European season, with Brazil set to host the Confederations Cup next summer.
