Fábio Aurélio, 32, was a key player for both Valencia and Liverpool under manager Rafa Benitez, winning two La Liga titles and a UEFA Cup.

The former-São Paulo man is out of contract and set to return to Brazil, with Grêmio believed to have struck an agreement.

“We have already signed with one player, who we will announce to fans maybe on Friday, or maybe tomorrow after the game,” Grêmio director Paulo Pelaipe told Globo Esporte.

“It is all agreed and we are sorting the paperwork, then we will make an announcement.”

Fábio Aurélio, a member of the 2000 Olympic Games squad, will join fellow veterans Zé Roberto and Gilberto Silva at the club for the coming season.
