Alex Silva, 27, had fallen out of favour at Flamengo during pre-season and will now link-up with the Minas Gerais side until the end of 2012 on a nine-month loan deal.
“We are awaiting the official OK from Flamengo,” said the player’s legal representative Regis Vilas Boas.
“They have already signaled that all is well, but it will only be confirmed when they sign. But I can guarantee that the player is happy.
“He will play for a team which his brother represented. Moreover, he knows that Cruzeiro is a top-class club, which is among the greats of Brazil and that it will be good for his career.”
Vilas-Boas was referring to Alex Silva’s brother Luisão, who represented Cruzeiro for three years at the turn of the century, winning a Copa do Brasil and a state championship title.
