The defender was supposed to travel to Belem to meet up with the rest of the Seleção squad today, but has remained in Porto Alegre after missing his flight.

He has already turned down the opportunity to play for Brazil twice in the past, and now his agent Jorge Machado has told Globoesporte that Fernandes has no intention of changing his mind.

“It is the reality. He did not want to meet up with the team," said Machado. “He does not feel comfortable about it. He talked with [Gremio manager] Celso Roth, and said he does not want to go."

Fernandes was recently reported to be suffering from depression, and not long ago Gremio had to call in police to search for him after he went missing, eventually turning up in Sao Paulo.
