Along with their local rivals Manchester City, United have been in fine league form so far, picking up a maximum 12 points from their opening four games. They have also been lethal in front of goal, scoring 18 times with a goal difference of 15.

Chelsea had somewhat of a stuttering start, drawing with Stoke before labouring to wins over West Brom, Norwich and Sunderland. However, they are only two points behind last season’s champions, and now Luiz wants to overtake them with victory this weekend.

“We have a big game against Manchester United, who have big players who are performing well at the start of the season,” said the 24-year-old. “It is a big game, but we can prepare for it and I know on Sunday we will have a good game.”

Luiz goes into the game after making his return to the first team against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday after injury, a game in which he marked his Champions League debut with a goal.

“It was good,” he added. “It was a long time since I played, and in this game in played 75 minutes and it is good for me. It is important inside my body that I came back for the game. My leg is good; it is normal.”

On his goal, Luiz stated: “It was a nice goal. In training we shoot with the strikers. Now I have three goals at Stamford Bridge and I am very happy. I love the atmosphere and support here.”
