Earlier this month, Ronaldo played 15 minutes of a friendly against Romania as a farewell to the fans after years of service and many goals. Now, all the talk is of Santos striker Neymar filling his shoes, but Dunga believes Hulk could also do the job.

“Ronaldo was a player like no other, but his place in the national squad is still there," he told Record. “Therefore, Hulk can become his successor. He is not alone in that race; there are several players who can get there.

“But he has the necessary quality to impose himself in that fight," continued Dunga, who left Brazil last year after guiding them to the World Cup quarter-finals, and also gave Hulk his first cap.

“If he continues playing at Porto like he did last season, he will certainly start playing more regularly before the [2014] World Cup. Now, it will all depend on himself and on how he progresses," he concluded.

Despite being the top Brazilian goalscorer in a European league last season, Hulk was not included in Mano Menezes" Copa America squad and will have to wait to add to his three Seleção caps.
