The Istanbul giant announced their new transfer with a video on social media.

The welcome video was accompanied with a relating statement on their website.

Our club has signed a contract with Brazilian midfielder Josef de Souza as part of the transfer work for the 2020-21 season.

We welcome Josef de Souza, who we believe will provide important services to Beşiktaş, to Beşiktaş Family and wish him success.

Beşiktaş signed a one-year deal with the 31-year-old midfielder that also included an option to extend further for another year. As soon as Josef arrived yesterday, he also shared his excited at joining his new teammates in Turkey

“Istanbul is my second home. I am very happy to be back here.” he was quoted as saying.

Although, popular Turkish journalist Ahmet Çakar questioned Beşiktaş’ decision to sign Josef. He said the midfielder was not needed at the club and would only come in as a squad player at the very best. He questions that the club must keep Turkish players as the core of their team.

In opposite to that, fans seem to be pleased with Josef and the quality alongside the experience he brings to the club.

The 31-year-old player previously played for Besiktas’ city rival Fenerbahce from 2015 and 2018 before joining Saudi football club Al-Ahli.

He scored 16 goals in 136 games for Fenerbahce. In that timeframe, he scored a decent 10 goals.

Josef also made appearances for Vasco da GamaPortoGremio, and Sao Paulo during his club career. He has also played for the Brazilian National Team three times during his career.
