From being underdogs against Juventus and Manchester City, the Ligue 1 side now find themselves in the Champions League semi-finals.

Maxwell Cornet opened the scoring for his side in the 24th minute and gave Lyon a glimmer of hope to win.

Despite seeing more of the ball, the Manchester outfit was second best and never looked like they wanted to win.

De Bruyne grabbed one goal back in the second half but substitute Moussa Dembele settled the tie with a brace that compounded City’s woes.

While the game was at 2-1, Raheem Sterling made perhaps the biggest miss of the season when he fluffed his lines from a mere five yards out.

The result meant Guardiola once again fails to reach the semi-finals with Manchester City.

For now, Lyon president Aulas is pleased with Rudi Garcia and his achievements so far.

Lyon only appointed Garcia as manager last October following an abysmal start to the season by ex-boss Sylvinho.

Considering the circumstances, Garcia has achieved a lot with the club in short time and rightly deserves all the praise coming his way.

"It’s a huge achievement, well done to Rudi, Juninho [Pernambucano, sporting director] and to the players who were magnificent," an emotional Aulas told RMC Sport . "We had a terrible year, we started badly, we changed coaches, we had terrible injuries. We were able to recruit and react strongly.

"We have a talented team. You have to have a bit of success beyond talent, we’ve had some, that’s why we have to remain humble. It’s a very great performance.

"Garcia is a boy who does his job well. We had identified him to straighten out OL. He knew with humility, and sometimes difficulties, to do his work.

Cornet seems to love scoring against Manchester City and continued that streak yet again on Saturday.

In fact, the goal by Cornet was his fourth against Manchester City in the Champions League. Only Lionel Messi has equal or more goals than the Lyon star against City in the competition.
