Fan is killed in fight before Corinthians match in the Brazilian Cup

Yesterday Remo and Corinthians faced each other for a Brazilian Cup match where the local beat Timão 2-0. But the sad note of the day was due to the fact that, moments before the game, in Belem, North of Brazil, where the match was taking place, fans of both teams clashed and one of them was hit by a flare.

The fan was identified as Rafael de Moura Merenciano, 35, who lost his life today, according to the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho through his social networks. Corinthians also published a message on their social media showing solidarity and support to Rafael’s family. There is another fan who is hospitalized for this same case but no news has been given about his evolution.

“Corinthians deeply regrets the death of Rafael Merenciano, fan hit by an explosive device on Wednesday. The club reaffirms that football is an environment of peace and repudiates all kinds of violence. Solidarity with family and friends of Rafael,” said the club in official statement.

The authorities affirmed that they are already working to find those responsible for this act. The police marked the fact as homicide, for which reason the person or persons responsible must face said penalty when they are formalized. In any case, at the moment there is no individual detained so far. Police reports state that the suspects escaped in a car after launching the flares.
