Upon leaving the bench, Everaldo determined the victory that marks the recovery of the São Paulo team after the defeat suffered by Flamengo in the last round.

Mantuan had opened the scoring, and Ribamar tied before the 2-1 win came late on.

The Rio team, who saw the first game in charge for Portuguese coach Ricardo Sá Pinto, reached the seventh game without a win and is close to the relegation zone.

Well posted, Corinthians knew how to take advantage of the excess of wrong passes from the opponent to score well and exploit the counterattack. It was so, after Cayo Tenório’s mistake, that Mantuan made the move, scored with Cazares and opened the scoring by deflecting the ball and taking it out of Fernando Miguel’s reach.

After the break, Vasco improved. Sá Pinto advanced the mark and brought on Léo Gil. In the 73rd minute, Vasco equalized through Ribamar and the game looked like it was heading for a stalemate. Just at the 90th minute, a shot from Everaldo deflected through Henrique and tricked the Vasco goalkeeper to go all the way in.

The victory meant a six-position jump to Corinthians and the recovery from the 5-1 loss suffered against Flamengo. With 21 points, they are in tenth place but could drop further the complement of the 18th round at the weekend.

Vasco, who now accumulate seven rounds without winning, continue with 18 points and are in 16th place although they have two games less. They have just two points more than Athletico-PR, the first member of the relegation zone.
