Guilherme Biro scored the winning goal for the Brazilian National Team against Venezuela at 42 minutes into the second half, securing the team’s second place in the final quadrangular of the Pre-Olympics – the match ended 2-1 and was played on Thursday night (8) in Caracas. One of Ramon Menezes’ chosen ones to change the course of the match, the midfielder was praised by the coach, who praised his journey with the national team.

“He is a player with a fantastic history within the Brazilian National Team. When he wears this shirt, he represents what it means to wear the Brazilian National Team shirt. He is an athlete who was a South American U-15 champion, playing as a left-back, South American U-20 champion, was the captain of the team in the Pan-American Games, and is someone we trust a lot,” he emphasized.

The player’s career for Brazil began in 2019, the year he was crowned South American U-15 champion. Since then, he has played 39 matches for the Brazilian National Team. He is the third player with the most games among those called up for the Pre-Olympics. Only his teammates and also South American U-15 champions, Andrey and Mycael, have more, with 44 and 43 games, respectively.

Ramon Menezes fielded him at 35 minutes into the second half, replacing Maurício, who scored Brazil’s first goal in the match. At that moment, Venezuela was holding onto the ball and running down the clock.

“The game scenario was very difficult. It was about trying to do something different, provide an assist, make a play that would result in a goal. And, thank God, I was able to score, with Endrick’s pass,” said Biro, who dedicated the goal to his family and friends.

In the press conference, Ramon commented that Biro, at the beginning of the competition, was not in his “best physical condition.” The player acknowledged that he was struggling with discomfort in the adductor region and thanked his teammates and staff for the support and treatment he received.

“I think it’s the result of a lot of work, a lot of effort that I’ve been putting in these days. I had some pain in my adductor area, but I was perseverant. I thanked my teammates, the physiotherapists who were with me as well, who prepared me so that I could be fit for today’s game,” he celebrated.

Brazil will decide their spot for the Paris Games in a match against Argentina on Sunday (11) in the last round of the tournament. If they win, the team will be guaranteed a spot in the Games. In case of a draw, the Yellow Jersey may qualify but will depend on the result between Venezuela and Paraguay, which will also take place on the same day.

Biro sees the opponent in the last round as “very difficult.”

“We know there is a great rivalry between Brazil and Argentina. So we will prepare in the best way possible to enter focused and secure this qualification,” he stated.
