The Superior Court of Sports Justice for Soccer sanctioned Corinthians with a date behind closed doors, after homophobic chants were heard at the Neo Química Arena during the draw against São Paulo on May 14.

The official publication still remains, which the club awaits in order to appeal. Timão’s next two games will be away, first against Santos and then against Athletico Paranaense, so they have time to reverse the decision before the clash against Bragantino on July 2.

No place for homophobia or discrimination in football

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has toughened sanctions in cases of racism, homophobia, discrimination and xenophobia through the new General Competition Regulations. In fact, Corinthians fans were warned as soon as their chants that violated the rules of conduct began to be heard.

Referee Bruno Arleu de Araújo stopped the game for four minutes and informed the minutes about what happened. In addition, the stadium screens also warned the local crooked by remembering that any chant of discrimination is prohibited. If this public suspension date is applied for the next game, it could set a precedent and lead to reflection.
