Jorge Jesus labeled his team’s 28 consecutive wins as “momentous,” yet he immediately highlighted the ultimate insignificance of this feat without season-end silverware. His team, Al Hilal, clinched a spot in the Asian Champions League semi-finals by defeating Al Ittihad 2-0 in Jeddah, surpassing The New Saints’ previous record of 27 straight wins.

Al Hilal, already distinguished with four AFC Champions League titles, now advances with a 4-0 aggregate win, facing Al Ain from the UAE next. Jesus shared, “Everyone at Al Hilal is delighted to achieve world football history by winning 28 consecutive matches. This is truly an incredible achievement,” recognizing the club-wide effort behind this record-setting streak.

However, Jesus emphasized, “As I have said throughout this period, records do not matter as much as trophies.” He pointed out the team’s focus should remain on securing the Saudi League championship and succeeding in cup competitions to truly celebrate their accomplishments.

Hilal leads their closest league competitor by 12 points and is competing in the Saudi Super Cup. Following their Champions League runner-up finish last season, they secured a quarter-final victory over Ittihad highlighted by goals from Yasser Al Shahrani and a last-minute score by Aleksandar Mitrovic setting up Malcom, reflecting the team’s ambition and focus amidst Saudi football’s influx of international talent.
