Coritiba had no chance as Atlético-MG defeated them 2-0 on Saturday night in a pretty expected result. Rooster won with a great goal from midfielder Hyoran and substitute Eduardo after dominating majority of the game.

The game started brightly for the hosts.

They held most of the possession with the visitors sitting back waiting for the counter attacks. Atlético-MG lost lots of opportunities to strike first. Eduardo Vargas had the chance to open up the scoring but Wilson kept the forward at bay.

Coritiba also created some chances to score through a counter attacking situation. Giovanni Augusto placed a shot toward Everson with his weaker foot but the goalkeeper was able to parry the ball away.

Galdezani got another opportunity minutes later through another counter attack, but was only able to send his effort over the bar.

In the 66th minute, Hyoran finally broke the deadlock. A pass from Alonso found the Brazilian free and the midfielder placed his shot past Wilson to open the scoring.

A good save from Everson prevented Robson from equalizing in the 75th minutes. Not long later, Atlético-MG put the game beyond doubt. Eduardo Sasha needed only 31 seconds after being substituted in to get his name on the score sheet and put his side further in the lead.

The hosts further add to Coxa’s misery in their quest to avoid relegation. The visitors sit 7 points away from safety and would need a nice run of form to go clear from the drop zone.

The game definitely means another disappointment to Coritiba who remain rooted to the bottom and without a win in their last five league games.

Coritiba take on Goiás next on January 6 while Atlético-MG plays on January 11 after having 16 days off until their next fixture against Bragantino.
