One of the most consistent players of the Brazilian National Team in the Pre-Olympic, the defender Arthur Chaves was greatly celebrated by his teammates as soon as he returned to the team’s locker room after the end of the match in which Brazil defeated Venezuela 2-1 on Thursday night (8) in Caracas. Amid the euphoria of the victory, he had to explain the composure in a crucial moment in the match – a ball cleared off the line when the score was 0-0.

“I stayed back to cover Mycael in that play. It was a ball where our opponents, even marked, managed to get a shot off and it passed by Mycael but very close to my feet. And I managed to clear it. At that moment, we were under pressure. It was important to prevent that goal.”

The defender formed a good partnership with Lucas Fasson in defense, not giving many chances on aerial balls into the box.

“We knew it would be a very difficult game. Venezuela has a very qualified team, they are fast and technical and played with their fans behind them. But we like challenges like this and the Brazilian National Team deserves to be respected for its unique history in world football,” added Arthur Chaves, who said his prayer as soon as he arrived at the Brígido Iriarte Stadium locker room.

For the game against Argentina on Sunday, Arthur Chaves labels it as a new decision, as the match will determine one of the two teams qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

“Now it’s about heart, commitment, attitude; it will have to be this way.”
