The Confederation of African Football (CAF) reserved a little mockery for Brazil after their loss to Senegal in a friendly match. On social media, CAF had fun reminding football fans what the national squads of Cameroon, Morocco and Senegal have in common: they have all beaten the Brazilian team in recent months.

The first loss in this series was at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Cameroon surprised Brazil by inflicting a 1-0 defeat in the last game of the group stage. A victory that shook Brazilian fans and marked the start of their losing streak against African teams.

The second setback happened in a friendly match on March 25 this year. This time, it was Morocco who took the upper hand by winning 2-1 in Tangier. An impressive performance by the Moroccan team which knew how to exploit the weaknesses of the Seleção to emerge victorious.

Finally, the third defeat was inflicted by Senegal in an international friendly match in Lisbon yesterday (20). The Teranga Lions surprised the Brazilians by winning a convincing 4-2 victory. A painful defeat for Brazil which was undermined by the offensive power of Senegal.

Brazil’s vulnerability to the rise of African football

These three defeats in a row have undoubtedly raised concerns within the Brazilian team. Considered one of the powerhouses of world football, Brazil must now face the reality of their vulnerability against rising African teams. These results highlight the evolution of African football.
