Liverpool midfielder Fabinho says he was ‘surprised and upset’ at being left out of Brazil’s Copa América squad.

Fernandinho and Arthur were preferred to the Liverpool man, who admits that he expected to be called.

“For being present in the four post-World Cup qualifiers and for my form, I was very keen to be in the Copa America. I was a bit surprised and upset,” he told SporTV.

“I wanted to play this competition in my country. As we had to think about the Champions League final, I tried to forget as soon as possible.”

Fabinho is a versatile player, capable of playing across the defence and in midfield, but the Brazilian says he prefers to play in midfield.

“I like midfield, holding midfield, where I've been playing in the last few years. It's a position I feel comfortable with. You have the ball more, organize the team more, I always felt very good in that position.”
