Ex-France striker Yannick Stopyra says that Neymar can overtake Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and become the greatest player on the planet. The Brazilian has scored 3 goals in his first two games for Paris Saint Germain following a world record £198m move this summer.

Neymar was keen to step out of Lionel Messi’s shadow at Barcelona and Stopyra thinks the Brazilian will do just that at PSG, "I have played against great players like Maradona but I have never seen anything like that," he said, referring to Neymar’s second goal against Toulouse.

"He does it all at a giddy pace and has improved his team-mates in an extraordinary way. Technically, you have the impression there is the world of difference between him and [Edinson] Cavani, who scored 49 goals last season. That tells you everything."

Sopyra, who played in the 1986 World Cup, told L’Equipe, "Yes, at PSG, there is no-one who can put him in the shade but at the same time he is surrounded by very good players.

"He has everything to become the best in the world. Everything depends of course on the Champions League, but if he is able to win it, he will have to be the No.1."
