Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has welcomed the surprise arrival of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho into the Barca setup and thinks that the player offers variety to the squad.
Paulinho joined from Guangzhou Evergrande this week for around €40m and Busquets, who is set to partner the Brazilian in the Barca midfield, thinks he is a sound acquisition.
“I think the arrival of Paulinho is good because he is a player with a different profile than we have and he is a player that can contribute a lot. He is a star of the Brazilian team, one of the best and we will welcome him with open arms.
“He is an important player for the National Team. He is a strong player who can help us from another perspective. There is no player like him in the squad.”
Speaking after the team’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup Final, Busquets also reflected on the loss of Neymar, who joined Paris Saint Germain this month.
“Of course with the departure of Neymar we have lost a big player. Look at the player he is. About Messi and the individual marking, it is normal. We need variants and more players to unbalance the opposition and allow Messi some freedom.”
