Brazil coach Tite has admitted that he had a proposal to manage in the Chinese Super League back in 2013, shortly after he left the Corinthians job to take a 1 year sabbatical. The Seleção used the time to visit with the likes of Arsene Wenger and Carlo Ancelotti and broaden his horizons.

He admitted in an interview with O Jogo that he had a proposal to join a Chinese club, which he turned down because he always had his eyes on the Brazil post. His compatriots Luiz Felipe Scolari, Wanderlei Luxembourgo, Mano Menezes and Cuca took posts in China.

“Yes, I had (a proposal from China). It was late 2013, shortly after I left Corinthians. However, at the time, I was betting on the opportunity to take on the national team. I believed that if I went to China, I could lose visibility,” he explained.

Tite also says that the 2014 World Cup became a pressure point for Brazilian coaches, with very few from the country plying their trade in top European leagues, “Afterwards they realized that the directive side was also to blame, the press, the players.

“We need to train our coaches more and more, to have standard UEFA courses. Fortunately I have seen CBF go after that. I want to see Brazilian coaches in Europe, In Portugal, all of them in search of a better formation.

“The fact is: the language is also decisive. It is no use, for example, me wanting to work in English football. I say this because I will not achieve excellence in my work, I cannot deceive myself. Language is fundamental.”
