Defender David Luiz says that winning the Premier League was one of his prime motivations for returning to Chelsea. The Brazilian centre half rejoined from Paris Saint Germain in August and has played a huge part in the Blues’ league topping form to date.

Luiz spent three years at Stamford Bridge earlier in his career, winning a Champions League, a Europa League and an FA Cup. However, the Premier League title evaded him. Speaking with ESPN Brasil, the ex PSG man says the title is his burning ambition for the season.

“I love this club and I saw that if I came back it was because there was a story to continue. I did not get the Premier League in my first spell and this is a goal I have now. To help in any way I can to win this championship.

“I lived here for many years before moving to Paris. With the structure, what I found has not changed much. It’s all top-notch. They offer us the best conditions to do what we love, which is to play football.”

Luiz also heaped praise on the enthusiasm of Italian boss Antonio Conte, “Conte is a coach who loves what he does and it infects all of us who love football. Every training session and every game is a manifestation of how winning and competing is important to him, so for us, the motivation to keep focus is always high.”
