The game against Genoa last weekend was the sixth game in charge at Inter Milan for Stefano Pioli, but the coach once again opted to keep Brazilian striker Gabigol on the substitutes bench.
Stefano Pioli came to Inter Milan a month ago and gave signs that he would give 20-year-old striker Gabigol more chances to display his talent. However, this Sunday, in a 2-0 win against Genoa, the Brazilian stayed on the bench again and is yet to play a single minute of football for Inter Milan under the new coach. Against Genoa, the young striker was sent to warm up, but did not play. After the match, Pioli was once again asked about the subject, and he explained himself. Pioli said: “Gabigol? When there are situations that I deem appropriate, he will play. When I think he"s better than his teammates, I"ll pick him. If not, I"ll pick other players."
Since arriving at Inter Milan for a transfer fee of €29 million last summer, Gabigol has only played 16 minutes for the team, in a league match against Bologna. He interests Santos, and the board dreams of bringing back the player on loan. The problem for Santos to sign Gabigol would be the player"s wages – he receives almost R$ 1 million [around €280,000] per month in Italy. Hence, the Milan club would have to pay more than half of the wages for the striker to be loaned to Santos in 2017. Because of this, Inter are considering the possibility of sending Gabigol to other, lesser-known clubs in Europe. Las Palmas, from Spain, and Empoli and Pescara, from Italy, were reported as possible destinations for the Brazilian.
