Santos plans to wrap up the signing of Hamburg’s Brazilian defender Cleber by the end of this week, and businessman Luiz Taveira was the one who traveled to Europe to complete the negotiations.
According to Globo Esporte, Santos have advanced in the negotiations for defender Cleber, currently at Hamburg in Germany. Santos wants to get the job done by the end of this week, and have sent the businessman Luiz Taveira to deal directly with the board of the German club. Hamburg demands a fee of €3 million, while Santos wants to pay a maximum of €2 million in installments. To conclude the sale, Hamburg demanded the presence of a representative of the club. Elenko, the company that manages the defender’s career, has received enquiries from other Brazilian clubs, such as Atlético Mineiro, but gives priority to Santos because of Cleber’s desire. The player understands that he has all the conditions to reach Vila Belmiro as a starter and wants to play in the Copa Libertadores. The signing of Cleber was a request from coach Dorival Júnior, who cannot count on Luiz Felipe and Gustavo Henrique at the start of next season; both players underwent knee surgery and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The options available in the squad are David Braz, Fabián Noguera and Lucas Veríssimo. Yuri, originally a defensive midfielder, has also been used in the function.
Cleber was revealed by Paulista de Jundiaí. He went through Paulista, Itumbiara and Catanduvense before making a name at Ponte Preta, between 2012 and 2013. He was then bought by Corinthians in 2014 but was later sold to Hamburg for around €3 million.
