Two-time Brasileirão champion and best player of the tournament in both editions, attacking midfielder Éverton Ribeiro may be missing Cruzeiro.
Currently at Al-Ahli in the United Arab Emirates, the attacking midfielder ruled out a return to Brazil in the next transfer window but reinforces his desire to work again at Cruzeiro. In an exclusive interview with UOL Esporte, the player said that he feels affection for the Belo Horizonte side and says that the club have his preference if he’s to return to the country. He said: “Cruzeiro, without doubt, is a club where I would return with all the happiness, because it was a place where I had two very happy years. It have great affection for them, and if one day I have the opportunity, I would like to return.”
Since moving to Dubai, the 27-year-old has appeared in the sights of Palmeiras, São Paulo and Flamengo. He, however, guarantees that the return to Brazil will not occur in the next transfer window. The player’s contract with Al-Ahli ends on January 2019. Two factors complicate the return of Éverton to Cruzeiro: the Arabs want to recoup the €15 million they invested to sign the player, and the goal of Éverton is to make the shift to Europe. He added: “I think it’s very difficult to come back at this moment, especially when the team’s well here. It’s good to know that my name is speculated in Brazil, but my focus now is to stay here. What I wanted most is to be able to go to Europe in the next step, but in fact we are going to see what can happen from now on, and we will continue to work hard to see what happens.”
