One of the highlights of Santos this season, midfielder Thiago Maia said in an interview with ESPN Brasil that he has the dream of one day playing for French champions PSG.
Thiago Maia, who was part of the Olympic Gold medal winning squad, said he identifies with the French club, well recommended by his friend Marquinhos. The two were teammates in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Thiago Maia, however, stressed that he"s currently focused on the situation of Santos in the Brazilian Championship. He wants to help his team qualify for next season"s Copa Libertadores and will then analyse possible proposals, which he said should arrive soon. His contract with the club is valid until 2019.
Thiago said: “I have identification with PSG. Many players say that they want to play for Real Madrid, for Barcelona…but I identify with PSG. But that does not mean I"ll go there. Any approach from them? Not yet. I hope it arrives one day. As I said, I identify a lot, I have friends there. Marquinhos told me about the structure of the club. You can see it in his smile that he"s happy. If I go to PSG [one day], I will be very happy."
He added: “I leave [the future] in the hands of my mother and my manager. It"s a dream, but I"m thinking. I"ve heard it [the interest from European clubs]. My manager came out to say some things, but I stayed calm, and I will think about Santos. I think so much about Santos and the opportunity they gave me. Doesn"t depend only on me, but also Santos. I"d listen well to my mother, will also have my word, but first I want to think about getting in the Libertadores. Then I"ll think about it."
