The possibility of São Paulo losing their defender Rodrigo Caio continues despite the end of the international transfer window.
Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola claims to have found from a club representative that French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Italian club Napoli have both made an offer of €13 million. A portion of the fee would be paid as soon as the deal is closed, and Rodrigo Caio will transfer only in January. São Paulo has to give an answer in the coming days as both Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli want to complete a deal quickly. São Paulo would also be able to keep a small share of player’s economic rights, eyeing a future sale. Tricolor currently owns 80% of rights, 10% belongs to the player himself and the rest is with a businessman. The resignation of Gustavo Vieira de Oliveira, who was chief executive until last month, can help in the settlement. It was he who vetoed the sale of Rodrigo Caio during the last transfer window when PSG, Sevilla and Hamburg had made offers.
Rodrigo Caio has not yet been informed about new negotiations and expects a wage increase from president Leco, if he remains at the Morumbi. He earns around €39,000 per month, which is much less than Maicon, Michel Bastos, Wesley, Buffarini and Diego Lugano. If Rodrigo Caio had been released to Sevilla, he would’ve earned monthly wages of approximately €140,000.
