Robert Fernández, sporting director of Barcelona, was at the Vila Belmiro stadium last weekend to watch the game between Santos and Ponte Preta.
As reported by Globo Esporte, Robert was accompanied by Barcelona’s South American representative André Cury, and businessman João Celso. The report adds that Barcelona forward Neymar recommended Santos playmaker Lucas Lima to Robert Fernández, and the director was in the stadium to watch the 26-year-old in action. Lucas Lima has a contract with Santos until the end of 2017, but he has publicly expressed his desire to play in Europe in several occasions.
However, Spanish newspaper SPORT reported on Monday that Barcelona are not interested in signing Lucas Lima. According to the publication, Robert Fernández went to the Vila Belmiro just to watch Santos striker Gabigol, who’s also wanted by Italian champions Juventus. It’s important to note that Barcelona have a purchase preference on Gabigol – something they acquired during the transfer of Neymar in 2013.
