Probably the most valued São Paulo player at the moment, Rodrigo Caio is being monitored by Italian side Lazio and they may submit a proposal to sign the 22-year-old this summer.
Staff of the player confirmed that he was consulted on the contractual situation of the 22-year-old, who has an agreement with São Paulo until October 2018. Interest from Europe is expected to increase next month, as the defender/defensive-midfielder was called up to the Brazilian national team that will compete in the Olympic football tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Rodrigo Caio, however, leaves the matter on the hands of his representatives and the board of São Paulo, as he’s focused only in the Copa Libertadores semifinals, which will be held on 6th and 13th July. Last summer, São Paulo had officially announced that Rodrigo Caio was sold to Valencia for a €16 million fee, but a deal collapsed after he failed his medical examinations. Jorge Mendes soon took Rodrigo for a medical at Atlético Madrid, but the player turned down the loan offer put forward by the Colchoneros. Negotiations caused huge controversy following revelations that then São Paulo president Carlos Miguel Aidar, who resigned in October, sent his girlfriend, Cinira Maturana, to represent the club in talks.
