Dunga was dismissed by the Brazilian football federation after the team’s elimination from the first round of the Copa América Centenário.
Football legend Pelé said on Thursday that the dismissal of Dunga was unfair, but added that the Brazilian national team will be in good hands with new coach Tite. According to Pelé, Dunga should have continued in charge of the national team and thinks the criticism of the coach was exaggerated. Dunga took over from Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2014, but his team suffered failures in two Copas América tournaments. Dunga also left Brazil in sixth place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Pelé said: “I don’t know why he accepted, but Tite is a great coach. The national team is in good hands. For the Brazilian team, it’s very good. I thought that the departure of Dunga was unfair. It was not his fault. Dunga had nothing to do with the situation of Brazil because he did not have time to train. I don’t agree with the criticism of Dunga. In the whole competitions, the team were changing. Dunga was not guilty of anything.”
