Top-scorer of this season’s Libertadores, striker Jonathan Calleri has a contract with São Paulo only until the middle of the year, but Paulo Henrique Ganso is rooting for the Argentine to stay beyond the summer.
During a conversation with his followers on Facebook, Paulo Henrique Ganso praised Jonathan Calleri, and also said that the 22-year-old was unfairly sent off in the last group stage game against The Strongest last week. Ganso said: “Calleri is already a great signing, who knows if he can stay until the end of the year. Let’s see what will happen going forward. Red-card? I don’t just think that it was a red-card, but I also think that he did nothing. I heard a commentator saying that there was a verbal insult. If he was sent off for that, we will have no more football players on the field, because it happens a lot.”
Nearly four years after leaving Santos, Paulo Henrique Ganso played down any problems with Vila Belmiro team. The midfielder said that the fight he had was with the old board, led by Luis Álvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro. He said: “The fight was with who was leading the club at that time. Today, I know Modesto, he’s a good person. I left many friends there. The only fight was with those who ruled at that time. Other than that, I never had a fight with anyone.”
Ganso and Neymar were seen as two tremendous prospects to come out of Santos’ academy, but following the recurring injuries to the midfielder, the board led by LAOR refused to offer him a career path similar to the current Barcelona man. Two years later in 2012, the then number 10 left Vila Belmiro and signed a five year contract with rivals São Paulo.
