São Paulo drew 1-1 at Gremio and last seasons champions Corinthians beat Cruzeiro 1-0 to creep out of the relegation zone.

São Paulo’s draw kept their seven-point lead at the top with Copa da Libertadores champions Internacional leaping Gremio – who dropped to fourth – into second place after beating Ponte Preta 2-0.

Wanderley Luxemburgo’s Santos beat Figueirense 2-1 to go third, behind Santos on goal difference.

Sao Paulo, who have 60 points from 30 games, made the perfect start at Porto Alegre’s Olimpico stadium when midfielder Danilo scored from the edge of the penalty area after 51 seconds.

The world club champions were unlucky not to increase their lead as Leandro and Souza hit the woodwork before halftime before Gremio levelled four minutes after the restart with a superbly-taken goal by striker Hugo.
