Following Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Watford in yesterday’s F.A. Cup quarter-final, Hornets ‘keeper Huerelho Gomes told ESPN Brazil that Watford were in confident mood ahead of the match given Arsenal’s defensive frailties.

Talking to ESPN Brazil’s João Castelo-Branco, Gomes said, “It is the best time to play Arsenal and we came into the match very confident. When you see Arsenal playing against big teams, like Barcelona, they look like a small team. They don’t look like winning the title soon.”

Gomes said Watford were confident that they could hurt Arsenal on the counter attack, which very much proved to be the case, “We knew once we had the ball, we’d be able to pass it around since Arsenal give you so much space, especially between the lines.

“They have strong defenders, like Gabriel, but they are not strong defensively,” concluded the ex-Tottenham goalkeeper.
