Negotiations involving 35-year-old Santos striker Ricardo Oliveira and Chinese side Beijing Guoan is surrounded by a slight controversy.
As mentioned in UOL Esporte, representatives of Ricardo Oliveira ensures that the player left the meeting with Santos president Modesto after an agreement had been reached to release him to Beijing Guoan. The deal was for a one-year loan and Santos would be paid a fee of €2 million. The agreement also had a clause with a renewal option for another season. If Beijing wants to keep Ricardo Oliveira, then they should pay another €2m by November this year. According to people close to the player, Ricardo Oliveira told his wife and friends that Santos agreed to release him and was preparing for the move. However, the number 9 was surprised when he heard the interview of Santos president Modesto who said that the collective decision was to release their top scorer for €12m.
Player’s representatives says that Oliveira soon called Modesto and blurted, claiming “you don’t have a word” for changing the mind about releasing him. The information from the club about what happened at the meeting are quite different from what has been passed on by people connected to the player. Members of the Santos board states that Modesto did not make a promise to Ricardo Oliveira, but he is willing to sell the striker for less than €12m, but certainly not for the “€4m in two instalments” offer. The wages, €460,000 per-month, proposed by Beijing Guoan has been accepted by Ricardo Oliveira and the Chinese club have until Friday to reach an agreement with Santos.
