As well as the selecão’s comfortable victory over Kuwait, this weekend also saw the 28th round of the Brasileirão. While the top two each won their games Corinthians now find themselves back in the relegation zone.

A single goal from Domingos was enough to ensure victory for Santos over Grêmio and to see them move into second place while São Paulo coasted to an easy two-one win over Fluminense. Internacional moved a step closer to a top three spot beating São Caetano one goal to nil; Inter now lie just one point behind Grêmio.

At the other end of the table Corinthians endured a there-one thrashing away from home to Goais meaning they return to 17th place and the relegation zone. Coach Leão failed to attend the post-match press-conference but made his iridisation with the match referee clear and indicated the club will be making a formal complaint to the CBF. Last place Santa Cruz lost three-one to Parana at home while Palmeiras beat Flamengo three-one and now seem set to qualify for next year’s Copa-SUl-Americana.
