Paris Saint Germain defender David Luiz thinks Chelsea should “obviously” award a new contract to 35 year old skipper John Terry. Terry, who has been with the club for his entire career, revealed earlier this month that he could leave the club having not been offered a new contract, with his current deal up in June.

Luiz, a teammate of Terry’s at Chelsea, thinks the club ought to award the captain a contract. Ahead of PSG’s clash with Luiz’s old club, the Brazilian defender said, “”John is probably Chelsea’s greatest ever player, the club need to show him some more respect,” he told reporters,

“He has been clear that he wants to stay at the club, and they are making him wait for an answer. That is not how you treat a player who has given you so much and been a big part of so much success. The fans love John – if this is not handled well, they are not going to be happy.

“I am confused why John hasn’t been offered a new contract. He is still the best central defender at the club and one of the best in England, there should be no question about him being offered another a year.

“I really don’t know what to say, the whole situation has confused me. I think it’s obvious to everybody he deserves an extension.” Meanwhile, Luiz is wary of his old club, despite their poor domestic form this season.

“We have always said Chelsea’s form in the league means nothing in these two games,” he added. “They are very capable in Europe, and they will be motivated for these two games.

“It is important to get a good first result in Paris. I know how Chelsea play, they won’t come and just attack at us. They will be patient, let us attack, and then try and hurt us on the break. They have the players capable of doing this, so we must be careful.”
