The list has six players bought during the two terms of Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez [from 2000 to 2006 and from 2009 until now] that didn"t live up to the expectations placed on them.
The list by Spanish newspaper AS includes three Brazilian players, and on top is former FIFA World Player of the Year, Kaká. The playmaker, for whom Pérez paid approximately €67 million to AC Milan, was bought a few days before the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009. Kaká was constantly injured in his time at the Spanish capital, and didn"t have a good run compared to what he produced at Milan, where he was the best player in the world.
Third on the list is full-back Danilo who was a major signing by Real Madrid last summer. Although the player"s contract was coming to an end, Florentino Pérez shelled out nearly €32m to bring the Brazilian after his brilliant form at FC Porto. The newspaper recently revealed that Danilo has been playing with an ankle pain for the last three months, which might"ve resulted in his poor performances on the field.
Lucas Silva, one of the highlights of Cruzeiro when the team lifted the Brazilian Championship in 2014, was signed in January 2015. He cost €14m, but was loaned out to French side Marseille last summer as he couldn"t find a spot in the team.
Full list:
1. Kaká – €65 million
2. Asier Illarramendi – €38.9 million
3. Danilo – €31.5 million
4. Walter Samuel – €25 million
5. Jonathan Woodgate – €22 million
6. Lucas Silva – €14 million
