The Carnival in Brazil has postponed Fabián Balbuena’s plan to wear the Corinthians shirt as soon as possible.
After a visit to the club’s training centre on Monday, the Paraguayan defender did not show up on Tuesday to sign the contract because he awaits the cardiac exams to complete the procedure of his arrival to the new club. Balbuena performed physical examinations at the training centre, but cardiological tests are under the responsibility of a specialized clinic that is in partnership with Corinthians. The site, in the north of São Paulo, has been closed for the Carnival and reopens only on Wednesday. The idea of the club board is to arrange the tests early in the morning and then forward the signing of the contract, which must be valid for three years.
Corinthians reached an agreement with the player early last week, but still had to discuss the form of payment with Libertad for the purchase of 100% of his economic rights for approximately €1.5 million. According to Globo Esporte, São Paulo tried to enter the negotiation for the defender when talks between Corinthians and Libertad dragged on, but Tricolor denies having had any conversation with the player.
