Globoesporte is reporting that Liverpool have raised their offer for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian attacker Alex Teixeira to around £31m. Shakhtar have already knocked back two Liverpool bids, reported to be in the region of £24m and £28m. The Ukrainians are said to be holding out for £35m.

The Daily Star is reporting that Liverpool came back on Wednesday evening with an improved offer, with the European transfer window just four days away from closing. The player has already declared his keenness for the move to happen, telling a popular Liverpool website that “it would be an honour to wear the Liverpool shirt.”

The attacking midfielder, with 25 goals in 26 games this season, harbours international ambitions and believes a move to England will help him fulfil them. Teixeira is adamant that he wants Shakhtar to conclude a deal as quickly as possible.

“I’m trying to be transferred in this January window, and they (Shakhtar) know it. We got a very good proposal, and are negotiating. But if I do not leave now, it will in the middle of the year. I’m ready, have been already six years in Europe and at Shakhtar.

“I have talked with my wife, also with my daughter. This is my wish. Be transferred to a major league. And they are in full agreement with me, I know that Premier League is very strong and I’m ready for it. I know I’ll grow enough,” he said. Teixeira returned to Brazil this week, with his teammates still training in Florida ahead of the resumption of the Ukrainian season.
