Italian journalist Tancredi Palmer of BeIN Sports and Gazzetto dello Sport reports that Manchester United retain a keen interest in Neymar. The Brazilian has just over 2 years to run on his current deal and has refused to commit on a new contract until an investigation into his tax affairs has been concluded.

It is known that United came in for Neymar last summer and Palmer says that the Seleção captain was sorely tempted by their advances. According to Palmer, the Premier League giants were willing to double his current Barca salary, whilst the forward knows that he will always play second fiddle to Lionel Messi in Catalonia.

Palmer suggests Neymar changed his mind when he was nominated for the Ballon D’Or. Rumours have circulated linking Madrid to a move for Neymar too. The Italian journalist suggests that United would be prepared to comfortably break the world transfer record for the Brazilian, though their neighbours Manchester City would be willing to do so as well.

Neymar and his father are due in court in early February to hear charges relating to tax irregularities, with Barca teammate Javier Mascherano having already fallen foul of the law for similar reasons.
