Four Brazilian players are on the list of the ten largest transfer deals so far in 2016.
Former Botafogo striker Elkeson is the most expensive player so far after being sold by Guangzhou Evergrande to Shanghai SIPG for €18 million. Besides him, other Brazilians that appear in the top-10 list are Gérson [€17m], who joined AS Roma from Fluminense, 23-year-old winger Geuvânio [€11m], who left Santos for Tianjin Songjiang, and central defender Gil [€10m], who left Brasileirão champions Corinthians for Shandong Luneng.
In his fourth season in China, Elkeson leaves Guangzhou as the top scorer in the history of the club, with 77 goals in 111 games. He won the AFC Champions League twice and also lifted three Chinese Super League titles.
18-year-old midfielder Gérson, who has drawn comparisons with Paul Pogba, came second on the list, after being sold to Roma for €17m. Two Englishmen occupy the third and fourth position respectively; Jonjo Shelvey, who left Swansea to join Newcastle, and Afobe, who signed for Bournemouth from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The list could still change, as the European window ends only on January 31, and the Chinese window is until February 26.
