Diego Costa has set his sights on FA Cup glory, describing it as “a beautiful competition to play in,” on Chelsea’s official website. The striker opened the scoring for the 7 time winners this afternoon, as the Blues eased to a 2-0 home victory over League One Scunthorpe United.

Costa, who won the Copa del Rey with Atletico de Madrid in 2013, said, “‘To win the way we did at Crystal Palace gives us confidence going into Sunday’s match, especially in a competition such as the FA Cup which has a lot of history.

“It’s a beautiful competition not only to play in but also to watch and the win last week was definitely a boost for our morale.”

Costa described winning the Copa with Madrid as one of the highlights of his career, and he is keen to repeat the feat in England, “We were in a moment at Atletico where we hadn’t beaten Real Madrid for a long time, especially at their ground,’ he recalls. “In Spain, the Copa del Rey is the people’s competition; it’s something which belongs to them and has a lot of tradition.

“I remember the game being at Real’s ground, obviously it was a derby and the stadium was packed with both sets of supporters. It was a very special match to be part of and obviously to win it was an amazing feeling.

“Not just for me as an individual, but the club as a whole, it would be great to win the FA Cup,’ says Diego Costa.

“A club of Chelsea’s magnitude shouldn’t go a year without a trophy. We didn’t start the season well in the league so that gives us extra incentive to do well in the Cup.

“Obviously as an individual it would be very nice to add a trophy I haven’t won to my collection. One day, when I leave, I can then look back and say I was a champion in all of these different competitions.”

Costa now has 4 goals in his last 3 appearances for Chelsea.
