On Sunday, Cruzeiro officially announced the departure of coach Mano Menezes, who has accepted a proposal from Chinese side Shandong Luneng.
Before yesterday"s final league fixture against Internacional in Porto Alegre, the club issued a statement which said that it will be the coach"s last game in charge of Cruzeiro. The Chinese club tried to reduce the value [€1.7 million] that Cruzeiro was supposed to receive, as per the contractual clause. It has not been explained whether the situation was resolved. Asked about the reasons for choosing the trip to China, Mano Menezes responded that the proposal was impossible to ignore and completely outside the normal range.
The former Brazilian national team coach arrived at Cruzeiro in September and did a great job in three months. He took charge of a team fighting against relegation, but led them to a respectable position in the table, and even managed to gave fans slight hopes of top-4.
