Emre Can has told fans and the media alike to be patient with new signing Roberto Firmino. The German international claims the Brazilian will be brilliant for Jurgen Klopp’s side once he has adapted to English football.

Firmino made a £29 million move to Anfield from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in one of the biggest-money moves of the summer but has yet failed to find his feet. The signing was Liverpool’s record transfer, before being usurped by the £35 million move for Christian Benteke but having been sidelined by a back injury in the early part of the season hasn’t been able to endear himself to The Kop just yet.

However with two promising performances first against Bournemouth in the League Cup and then Chelsea recently their is signs the 24 year old is coming to terms with the rigours of the English game.

Team-mate Can empathises with the forward who went through a similar spell when he arrives on Merseyside last season;

“He’s a great player,” He said. “He scored a lot of goals and made a lot in Germany. I know myself that it’s difficult when you pick up an injury after arriving at a new club. It’s the worst time because you’re trying to make a good impression.

“It happened to me last season when I was on international duty and it took a few months to recover and get in the team. Firmino just needs time. People need to be patient with him then he can progress.”

The Brazilian international impressed throughout the summer months, which saw him rise to prominence on a bigger stage during the Copa America in Chile which effectively sealed his move to Anfield.

However, as aforementioned his latest two performances, have earned himself the Man of the Match award against Bournemouth as well as laying on an assist for Philippe Coutinho against Chelsea. This proves the sparks are just starting to flicker for the young forward and it could just be the second half of the campaign when Firmino comes to the fore.
