Paris Saint Germain manager Laurent Blanc has confirmed that Brazilian centre half David Luiz will miss his team’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid through injury. The French champions face Madrid in Paris on Wednesday night, but Luiz will miss the match with a knee injury obtained in Brazil’s World Cup qualifying defeat to Chile in Santiago a fortnight ago.

PSG boss Blanc confirmed, “David will only play when he has fully recovered.” It is thought that Luiz won’t be fit for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers with Peru and Argentina in November. PSG will also be without Marco Verratti, Angel Di Maria and Kevin Trapp, whilst Madrid have lost Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Pepe and Dani Carvajal.

Luka Modric is expected to return from a thigh injury. Both teams have won the first two matches in their group. Brazilians Marquinhos, Lucas Moura and Thiago Silva (PSG) and Casemiro, Danilo and Marcelo (Madrid) are all expected to feature.
