Ex-Internazionale and QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar has not masked his desire to play for Brazil in the World Cup in 2018.

The Selecao’s goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel was very coy when talking to a Portuguese daily, but insisted Cesar has a renewed ambition to play for Brazil once more.

“This will of Julius to return to the national team will help to push him harder and overcome the daily obstacles. While he was and always will be at the level of the Brazilian team. However with this break he has afforded himself it has given room for new goalkeepers, but the future you never know”

Since Cesar went on record to say the 3-0 loss to the Netherlands in the World Cup third/fourth play off of 2014, Dunga has tested a number of keepers for his number one spot. These include Jefferson, Alisson, Diego Alves and Marcos Grohe but none have stood out to command the role as of yet.

Despite admitting that it would be hard to gain a place for the World Cup in Russia without featuring in this years Copa America. He has not ruled out a return to the Canarinho and this has inspired the 36 year old to continue chasing his dream and believe he has a realistic chance of a place in Dunga’s 2018 World Cup squad;

“Today, living all that live and showing my work, I think I can continue to dream, respecting all the players I have to contend with. However defending the national team is something that motivates me yet, because I have the dream of being world champion. If they call me it will be a great pleasure.”

Taffarel, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994 has not closed the door on introducing Cesar back into the the fold;

“…I wish him to continue being this serious and dedicated professional. The rest is in God’s hands.”
