Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, who scored in São Paulo’s 2-1 victory over Grêmio in Porto Alegre on Sunday, and currently going through one of the best periods of his career, was highly praised by coach Juan Carlos Osório.
Pato himself believes that he deserves a place in Dunga’s national team squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and feels he can help the team both as a false-9 or on the wings. Osório told reporters after Sunday’s game: “In my opinion, in the position where Pato operates, he’s at the level of the best in the world. His technique, speed and runs with the ball are very good. Today, he attacked, ran and helped to retrieve the ball. He has improved as a team player and at the moment, I believe he deserves to be in the national team.”
Pato also thinks he’s done enough to earn a place in the Brazil squad, and said: “If Thursday’s call-up was now, I think I have the game to be there. I don’t see anybody better than me, and I can be there to help the team, as a false-9 or on the right or left.”
