Milan officials will meet this week to discuss the future of veteran centre-back Alex, according to reports.

Newspaper Corriere dello Sport, as cited by website Football Italia, claims that the 33 year-old is attracting interest from the Bundesliga and could be allowed to move on.

Milan’s Vice-President and C.E.O. Adriano Galliani is set to hold talks with Alex’s representatives over the coming days to ascertain whether a transfer is a plausible option and it is expected that his position should be clearer after those meetings.

A possible motivation for him to move on is the opportunity to play regularly. The Corriere dello Sport report suggests new Milan Head Coach Siniša Mihajlović will begin the 2015-16 campaign with Alessio Romagnoli and Rodrigo Ely as his central defensive pairing, leaving Alex on the sidelines.

The former Brazil international – capped 15 times between 2002 and 2008 – has already spent a season at Milan where his playing time was been mixed and may prefer to depart.

After joining from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in July 2014, he was given just 23 appearances in all competitions in the 2014-15 campaign, with then Head Coach Filippo Inzaghi choosing to often rotate.

With Alex’s contract expiring in June 2016, a deal that allows him to leave may suit all parties involved.
