Lyon full-back Rafael admits he didn’t get along with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal from day one.
The Brazilian, who left Manchester United to join French club Lyon last week, gave a detailed interview to Globo Esporte. He said: “I know that he has had problems in the past with Brazilians, but there’s no way I can say that he does not like Brazil. Yes, I know he was not happy with me, but I do not know if it was because I was Brazilian. Moreover, I was not the only one he did not like. He also told other players that they might leave.”
Rafael continued: “When Van Gaal arrived, it quickly became clear that I would play little. A footballer always wants to play and a footballer who plays, is happy. My relationship with Van Gaal was pretty normal. Of course he has his own way of communicating and has his temperament, but I have too.”
