Louis van Gaal has all but confirmed that Rafael da Silva has no future at Man United after a recent interview with the Manchester Evening News.
Rafael struggled for form and fitness last year and following the arrival of Matteo Darmian from Torino he is now third choice for the right back position. Van Gaal confirmed this to reporters.
“Manchester United want to attack with our full backs. It is always the theory. Matteo Darmian has to fight with Antonio Valencia, he knows that but Valencia knows that also.”
Van Gaal didn’t directly criticise Rafael but it didn’t take a genius to figure out who his next quote was aimed at.
“I want always a player who can defend in the first place because when you are right full back you have to defend and cooperate with your fellow defenders.”
